MİLLİ ŞAİR MEHMET EMİN YURDAKUL’UN ÖLÜM YIL DÖNÜMÜ
13 Mayıs 1869’da İstanbul’da doğan Mehmet Emin Yurdakul, Beşiktaş Askeri Rüştiyesi’ni bitirdikten sonra Mülkiye Mektebi’nin idadisinde okumuştur. 1887 yılında da Babıâli Sadaret Dairesi Evrak Odası’na katip olarak atanmıştır. Sonrasında ise 12 yılın ardından Hukuk Mektebi’ne başlasa da eğitimini tamamlamak üzere Amerika’ya gitmiştir gitmesine ancak hedeflerine orada ulaşamayıp memurluğa geri dönmüştür. 1907’de Erzurum Rüsumat Nazırlığı’na, 1909’da Bahriye Müsteşarlığı’na, sırasıyla Hicaz ve Sivas valiliğinde çalıştıktan sonra, 1913’te Musul milletvekili olarak seçilmiştir. Musul’da Halide Edip, Köprülüzade Fuat ve Hamdullah Suphi ile birlikte Hars ve ılim Heyeti üyeliğinde bulundu.
İstanbul’dayken Türk Ocağı’nın kurucuları arasında yer almış, çıkarılan Türk Yurdu dergisinde önemli görevlerde bulunmuştur. Atatürk tarafından hareketleri ilgiyle karşılanan Yurdakul; Anadolu’nun işgali sırasında Adana, Antalya ve İzmir yörelerinde halkın manevi ve maddi gücünü arttırmaya yönelik çalışmalarda bulunmuş, İzmir’in İşgali üzerine düzenlenen Sultanahmet Mitinglerinde halkta büyük etki uyandıran coşkulu bir konuşma yapmıştır.
Edebi hayatına Servet-i Fünun döneminde başlamıştır. İlk kitabı olan Türkçe şiirler ilgiyle karşılanarak kamuoyunda yankılar uyandırmıştır. Hece ölçüsünü kullanarak yazdığı şiirlerinde sade bir dil kullanmayı tercih etmiştir. Ayrıca Türk edebiyatına halk sesini getiren şair olarak nitelendirilmiştir. Milliyetçi ve vatansever düşüncelerini dile getiren öğretici şiirler yazmıştır. Anadolu’nun işgali sırasında dahil olmak üzere yaşamını sürdürdüğü milletinin selameti için elinden geleni yapmaya çalışan, MEB’in 100 Türk Edebiyatçısı Listesi’nde de adı bulunan, Milli Şair olarak tanınan Mehmet Emin Yurdakul, 14 Ocak 1944 yılında yaşamını yitirmiştir.
